Remember my sweet neighbor that we made the Chemo Caps for?

Well, she invited the little Who and me to dinner tonight at her place.

Her place... that doesn't have a highchair.

I remembered this genius idea from This Mama Makes Stuff and decided that I desperately needed one!

And by golly, the thing came together in less than half an hour.

Sorry I don't have a picture of the little Who wrapped up in it.

Which, I think, is the best part of this quickie project. :-)

Being on vacation has been wonderful!

Thank you for giving us some time to sit back, enjoy the holidays, and get into a routine with the new year. We've had a lot of changes in the past month and though I'm sure we still have a few kinks to work out, we're liking our new routine.

That being said, I'm not sure if a full time work schedule is going to fit in with said routine. Don't get me wrong, I love love love creating for you guys. And I hope to continue to do so. But I can't keep up the pace I had before the Little Who came along. I tried it and never really felt like I was giving all of you the same kind of service that I used to. That always left me feeling a bit like a failure.

You guys have been amazing through all of our closings, re-openings, and day-to-day musings. I appreciate all the love, pictures and sentiments you've sent our way! That's precisely why I don't want to officially close up shop.... yet.

For now, I still want to create - just on a more relaxed, case by case schedule. Which means that at some times, I may have to say "not right now" to a few custom orders. It will be hard to say but it will also give me some time to really enjoy the orders that I take on instead of staying up until 1 am and forgoing meals to sit behind the sewing machine. :-)

Blissfully Baby

Not many of my friends share my love for crafts. Sure, they admire crafty work but they don't squeal over a good fabric deal or instantly began blueprinting a project when they see something in the store.

Except for one.

One of my oldest and greatest friends is just as crafty crazy as I am. And I do have to admit, she is much more innovative than I am! Just look at these amazing blankets that she makes.

So amazing! The amount of time and detail put into every single stitch is mind blowing.

So, we flipped Yo Gabba Gabba! on for the girls, dumped out my cylinders of scrap fabric and got to work.

It was so much fun playing with piles of fabric. It did my crafty heart some good. :)

A funny thing happened...

I realized that I really love being on vacation.

Surely everyone feels this way and eventually they pull their bootstraps up and get back to work, right?

But what if, dare I say it.... what if, I don't want to work?

*gasp!*

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that my three co-workers have been doing this:

Yea, not very motivating.

Well, I've got one more month of vacation. Maybe I'll drum up some motivation somewhere along the way. :-)

Camera Purse Tutorial!

I got a really sweet comment asking for some specs about the camera purse insert so I thought I'd just give you guys a tutorial! Hope you enjoy!

Materials:

Exterior Fabric - 1/4 yard

Interior Fabric - 1/4 yard

1" Dense Foam - 1/4 yard

Velcro - 16"

Cut List:

5.5" x 28" (1 each of exterior and interior fabric - 2 pieces total)

5.5" x 5.5" (2 each of exterior and interior fabric - 4 pieces total)

4" x 8" (2 pieces of foam)

4" x 3" (4 pieces of foam)

8" soft side velcro (2 pieces)

4" rough side velcro (4 pieces)

4" rough and soft side velcro

Lay out all of your cut pieces:

Pin the soft side velcro onto your interior fabric piece. The first velcro strip will be 2.5" from the left end.

The second velcro strip will be 4.5" from the right end.

Sew these pieces down.

Place the two 28" long pieces right side together.

Sew together, leaving an opening on the right end. Make this opening fairly big so you can stuff the foam through later.

Clip your corners to reduce bulk.

Flip inside out and iron if you wish. I didn't. ;)

Now do the same for the 5.5" squares.

Take the first 8" piece of foam and stuff it into the cover. Follow it with a 3" piece of foam, followed by the second 8" and finally the last 3" piece.

You'll want about a finger's width between each piece of foam. I like the line up the 8" pieces right under the velcro strips.

Stuff your last small pieces of foam into the 5.5" squares.

Take one of your 4" strips of rough velcro and cut it in half lengthwise.

Pin both rough strips on the sides of each 5.5" piece.

You'll end up with these bad boys:

Now, take your last piece of velcro and sew the rough side to one end of the long piece.

Sew the soft side to the opposite end.

Smash those two velcroed ends together and you've got your frame!

Now you just position the two smaller pieces inside to fit your equipment and you're all set!

Now go make your own! :-)

The Little Who's Birthday Outfit

Remember when I threw the Little Who's half birthday party because I just knew that we weren't going to have a party on her real birthday (Christmas Day)?

Yea.... Apparently, we're having two more parties for the little rascal. :-/

The party on her actual birthday is going to be one knock-down, drag-out Korean celebration - known as the doljanchi. The planning is pretty intense - the decorations will be even more so. I'll keep you updated on all those shenanigans!

In the meantime, I wanted to share with you the birthday outfit I made for my little Christmas elf.

This will be the outfit she wears at her party on the 23rd with family in SC.

AL thinks the "1" looks like an "L" - either way, it works! :-)

DIY Camera Purse!

Somehow I finally found the time to squeeze in a little project for me!

I've been lusting after these Jo totes for several months. Even though they're pretty reasonably priced, I still couldn't bring myself to buy one because I have so many purses already!

But I still had the problem of not being able to carry my fancy camera in a regular purse.

So I decided to "build" a camera bag insert to go inside the purse!

Of course, choosing a fabric combination was harder than actually making it. :-)

I made it so that you could configure the compartments by moving the two connector pieces around. They're secured by velcro. And the frame also comes apart.

It fits perfectly in my favorite purse.

I had to take the next photo with my phone...

And I can even slip my phone and money in the center slot.

One project checked off my to-do list. Now, just to tackle the 50 more. :-)

When duty calls...B&GB goes on vacation.

I don't put this out there that often but we're a military family.

And we love it. :-)

However, when duty calls... it never quietly knocks on the door.

It barrels through every thought out plan, scheduled event, and important date... and shatters everything else in its wake.

Whether it's the dreaded D-word (deployment) or just a busy, hectic schedule at home, duty always comes first. And while AL's duty lies within the Army, my duty lies in him.

When he needs me, I drop everything and tend to my man. :-)

So, even though I had every intention of taking orders right up until Christmas and planning a big anniversary event in January... duty came a'knockin'.

Which means B&GB will be going on an extended vacation.

Orders placed by November 30th will still be filled but we'll be closed from December 1 through February.

I'm going to miss making all of your beautiful custom sets but I'm also excited to spend some quality time with AL, the little Who and the Sheebs.

Thank you for allowing me to take this time away to be with the ones who need their "Momma" :-)

Can a little Who have too many bows?

I think not!

Have you ever known someone for years and then realized that the circumstances of which you met are pretty unique? Take my friend Kyra for example. She is the sister-in-law of someone I only met because her husband worked with my husband some time ago.

Fast forward 5 years, I have a daughter and Kyra makes these amazing hair bows!

No matter the unlikely way that we met, I am so glad that we did!

Kyra is the mom of an adorable, sweet cheeked little girl named Charlotte. They are both the epitomes of Georgia peaches and are gorgeous to boot. But back to the bows, my friends. I'm sure Kyra learned that as a mom of a little girl, you can make a pretty big dent in your wallet buying those adorable bows from the boutique. So instead, she set out to make her own... and blew the over-priced ones out of the water!

She now sells them in her free time - when she's not chasing after little Charlotte and her basset hound, Savannah. Well, I'm sure Savannah doesn't need much chasing after. ;-)

Blogger Fail at the Juice Bar

I'm a terrible blogger.

Last night, I threw a majorly fun "Juice Bar" party.

The premise?

Bring your favorite fruit or veggie to juice, top it off with some sparkling grape juice and chase it with some fabulous mini foods.

The result?

A fabulous girly gab-fest with tons of antioxidants and yummy goodness flowing through our bodies.

My fail?

I didn't take a single picture. <face palm>

So instead, I'll show you the inspiration for the foods that we chowed down on.

For the berry boats, I just used the packaged fillo shells that you can find in the freezer section at your grocery store, filled them with a nutella/mascarpone cheese mixture and topped them off with a single raspberry.

And for the actual juice bar, I took this idea and ran with it for all the fruits and veggies.

Once we filled our bellies, we chatted for a bit about Juice Plus+, which is a whole foods nutritional product that Bark and Giggle distributes.

Then we chatted about girl stuff - jewelry, skin products, date nights with the hubby, parenting tips, and of course, not having to shave our legs as often in the winter :-)

Finally, it was time to put the Little Who down to bed so the night came to a close.

"Chemo Cap" Gift

I have this amazing neighbor. She's a grandma, an avid walker, a gardener, an "eternal optimist".

She has breast cancer and is currently going through chemotherapy.

And you know what she does? She leaves homegrown tomatoes on my doorstep with a vase of flowers to let me know that she's thinking of me.

How amazing, right?

So, I wanted to do something special for her. The little Who and I decided to make a couple of hats for her to wear as we enter the cold and rainy season here in the PNW.

Sorry for the terrible lighting in the pictures! Yet another project completed after the little Who went to bed. :-)

I'm so happy that she loved the homemade hats. Don't the colors just make you want to smile?

I would keep the Little Who at this age forever.

She's mastered crawling but hasn't tried walking yet. So she's mobile but not yet running all over the place.

She's curious, which means she's captivated by the simplest things like an empty box, but not yet destructive.

She's old enough to "pet" Ryu and Roxy but not big enough to do any harm.

She can entertain herself but still loves to cuddle.

Ah. I love this age.

Now, stop growing up so fast Little Who!!

"What They Don't Tell You" Wednesday

What they don't tell ya.... is that you can still love your dogs after you have a baby!

I remember having the same argument over and over again while I was pregnant with The Little Who. It went a little something like this:

Random Person: "Will this be your first kid?"

Me: "Human kid, yes. I have two dogs."

R.P.: "Oh, yea, they don't count though."

Me: "To you maybe."

R.P.: "You'll see when you have your baby. They will be 'just dogs' then!"

Me: "I don't think you can know that for sure."

R.P.: "Yep! Once that baby comes, you'll be dropping those filthy dogs at the shelter!"

This is where I pretty much tune the person out and figure out my escape route.

Why is it that everyone assumes that you can only love your dogs if you don't have children?

Or that having children will automatically enlighten you to the notion that dogs are just dogs?

That somehow you can throw away 4 years of love just like that?

Sure, I'll admit - I may not spend as much time doting on Ryu and Roxy as I used to. They may not be showered with gifts and homemade treats. I might scream because Roxy chewed up another {insert anything on God's green earth here} or curse under my breath when Ryu barks at the wind. They may miss a walk... or twenty. But it's not because I don't love them anymore. It's because I don't have time to take a flippin' shower or eat dinner most days. It's because, at 4 and 3 years old, Ryu and Roxy don't really need me scooping them up out of harm's way like a 10 month old baby. It's because, gosh darnit, when you've given 150% of yourself to your baby, your husband and your business, maybe, just maybe you want 5 minutes to yourself?!?! (whoa - that got a little out of hand there... lol)

But you know what? When the daily race of just trying to keep up has finally beaten me and I literally have to force one foot in front of the other - guess where you'll find me? On the couch with my Sheebs. And when they push and shove each other to get in my lap, I'm reminded why I love these "filthy dogs". When I'm tired, emotionally wrecked, and my mind is racing with things I still have to do, my first-born and second-born (albeit furry) kids climb on top of me and lick my wounds. They remind me that even when I may not have accomplished a single thing besides keep everyone alive, they still think I'm quite possibly the most amazing person in the world.

What they don't tell you, is that your dogs may just be your saving grace after you have a baby.

And they definitely don't bother telling you about the day when your puppy (who's no longer a puppy but you still can't bring yourself to admit it) curls up on the bed with his nose gently touching your newborn baby. And your heart bursts with love. Love for your new child, growing up with a love for animals. Love for your puppy, who has a delicate touch you've never seen before.

Yes, you can absolutely love your dogs even after you bring a child into the world. So don't be surprised if our next conversation goes a little something like this:

Random Person: "Is she your first kid?"

Me: "She's my third."
